Renting a car in Mexico without surprises
The headline discount matters less on a Mexican rental than what the rate includes, and Hertz Mexico publishes that up front: unlimited mileage, third party liability cover for property damage up to 700,000 Mexican pesos, local fees and VAT are all built into the quoted price. Pickup points cover Cancún, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Los Cabos and Tulum, along with the rest of the Hertz Mexico network. The fleet runs from compacts through SUVs to full size cars, with air conditioning, ABS, power windows and Bluetooth as standard equipment.
Rules that catch travellers out
The minimum driver age is 25. You need a valid driver's licence, official identification and a credit card in the driver's name, and if you present an INE, it and the licence have to be issued in the same state. Bookings need to be made at least two hours ahead, and a rental runs from one day up to a maximum of ten. Several locations are pet friendly, with a deep cleaning fee added at return.
